Elaine has been involved in Kayaking for many years. In 2006 she decided to take the sport more seriously and qualified as a BCU Level 2 Kayak coach in an effort to encourage young people to learn the skills of the sport she loves.
Now a BCU Level 3 Kayak coach, Elaine and her team deliver paddling sessions every week at the local swimming pool during the winter and then from spring onwards move outdoors. Elaine’s commitment to the training and safety of the young people is paramount and her efforts have led her to be appointed Assistant County Commissioner for activities in West Yorkshire. She now leads a much wider team of people, delivering an extensive programme of outdoor activities including Climbing, Hill Walking, Camping, High Ropes, Archery, Shooting, Sailing, Rowing and Power Boating to name but a few!
However, this additional voluntary work has not deterred her from coaching both Kayak and Open Canoe skills to beginners and improvers on a regular basis, and some of these young people have progressed to join local canoe clubs.
