Gordon McCormack (Glasgow) – Nominated by Scottish Disability Sport
“Gordon has volunteered for and been a huge servant to disability sport in Scotland for over 35 years. His experience and knowledge regarding all matters concerned with disability sport make him a vital resource.
Gordon was Chair of Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) between 2006 and 2014 and led the organisation through a period of enormous growth. Prior to taking on the Chair of SDS, he was the local Branch Chair of Glasgow Disability Sport.
Gordon has been heavily involved in the organisation of events specifically for the benefit and celebration of disabled people. These include the Glasgow celebratory events for the Year of Disabled People in 1990 and the Special Olympics National Games in 2005.
Despite stepping down as Chair of SDS, he remains a huge resource for the current board at SDS. He continues to run local and national events in a voluntary capacity supporting various projects and programmes of Scottish Disability Sport.
Gordon’s warm personality, unflagging commitment to others and selfless dedication have ensured that generation after generation of young people and adults with a disability have had many opportunities to enjoy the social, psychological and physical benefits of sport at all levels.
Gordon is one of these exceptional people who really has made a difference in the world of disability sport.”
