Judith Phelps (Shropshire) – Nominated by the Rugby Football Union
Her close association with the sport began while her younger children were moving through the junior section of Telford Hornets RFC. She has immersed herself into the running of the club, being active on a number of the club’s committees and even becoming Chairman.
Under her stewardship she oversaw a complete overhaul of the club’s finances, laying the groundwork for lease negotiations. She was also vital in securing a number of grants to both improve the infrastructure of the facilities, and also the clubs links to local education.
Judith has also become the Constituent Body Safeguarding Manager for North Midlands. She is responsible, on a voluntary basis, for setting, managing and advising on safeguarding policy across a constituent body of 60+ clubs.
Her dedication and efforts within the safeguarding community has seen her called upon to present and support at national RFU events and conferences. On top of this Judith has also held positions on the North Midlands Community Rugby Committee.
Judith’s contribution over the last decade has been integral to improving the structure and governance of rugby as a whole. For this, all those who play and enjoy the game owe their thanks to Judith.”
