Lee English (Nottingham) – Nominated by Basketball England
“Lee is rightly revered in Nottingham and respected far further afield for his services to basketball.
Realising that there was no exit route for players beyond the age of 18, Lee established the Nottingham Hoods Basketball Club in 2009. His vision was to provide a National League side in Nottingham for senior men. However it became quickly apparent that there was a demand for young people too.
The club he established is a totally non-profit making organisation and is run by volunteers. Its aim is to engage with children through sport and to help them to develop as well keeping them active and healthy.
Incredibly, Lee has managed to create a flourishing club with local networks and initiatives, while still coaching, across the age groups, nearly every day of the week.
Lee’s efforts and initiative really are a success story for the city, with Nottingham having mini and junior teams competing at U12, U14, U16 and U18 level, a successful ladies local league team and a national championship title, courtesy of the Senior Men’s National League team
Lee has proved to be a credit to Nottingham as a city and to the sport of basketball. He deserves every accolade that comes his way.”
