Linda Edmunds was persuaded to help out with the organisation of junior football at Vauxhall FC back in 1998.
At that time the club’s junior programme was in its infancy and shortly after Linda joined, the club’s football development coach decided to leave. Rather than let the programme die Linda took on the running of the club’s youth programme herself, despite having no experience in coaching or football development. However, through sheer commitment she recruited youngsters and a couple of qualified coaches and the programme started to blossom.
In the 1999/2000 season the club entered its first team into League football and Linda took on the role of Honorary Youth Secretary. This involved arranging all fixtures, sorting out kit for the teams, paying referees as well as attending all fixtures, home and away. As the club grew, it required more coaches and Linda took on the role of Welfare Officer, attending the relevant courses and managing the clubs DBS checks, whilst also ensuring that all teams had a qualified coach. The club now caters for over 400 boys and girls in their 35 plus teams.
Linda deserves to be recognised for the tremendous contribution she has made to the game.
