Ray Gordon (Newcastle Upon Tyne) – Nominated by the Amateur Swimming Association
“If you’re familiar with the amateur swimming scene, chances are you’ve heard of Ray Gordon. A long standing board member of the ASA, Ray was fittingly elected President of the ASA during the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
It all began for Ray at City of Newcastle ASC in the 1980’s. Ray has worked on the committee in several capacities over the years and was instrumental in introducing computer results and processing in the area.
Ray’s work with computer processing resulted in him working as a volunteer at most National and International Events held in England over the years. He was appointed Chief Recorder and Technology Manager for National Events in 1980 by the ASA. He was also appointed Chief Recorder for Open Water FINA World Cup, BUCS/BUSA Chief Recorder for over 18 years and Chief Recorder for English Schools events in the North East.
Aside from a passion for swimming, Ray has immersed himself in many great sporting events over the course of two decades. He’s volunteered time and time again to help people come together and enjoy watching sport.
His wealth of knowledge and experience coupled with his warm-hearted, honest and open approach makes him a shining example to all who strive to make sport better.”
