About the Trust

We are committed to recognising the unsung heroes of sport through bursaries which enable individuals to develop their skills and by commemorating community achievement at our annual Torch Trophy Trust Awards.

UnknownEver since the first ever Torch Trophy Trust meeting in 1962, the organisation has identified and honoured sporting volunteers who ordinarily would neither gain or seek recognition for their work with sports clubs and individual athletes in their local communities. Thanks to our partnership with the Sports and Recreation Alliance who graciously provide day-to-day support , we have been able to foster excellent relationships with governing bodies in all parts of the UK and across the entire sporting spectrum.

As a charitable concern, we are delighted that recognition for so many unsung heroes has been actively acknowledged by the Royal Householdon a consistent basis with a member of  the Royal Family presenting the awards each year since 1980. Each year, the Trust’s Royal guest is accompanied at the ceremony by Trust President, Sir Bobby Charlton CBE.

Award winners and Trust Bursary recipients are people dedicated to their chosen sport or recreation who have been nominated by colleagues and administrators who have recognised their outstanding commitment to their local communities. Each nomination must be supported by the appropriate national body.
